Jogging Strollers – Safety Tips To Consider

The proper use of jogging strollers is a serious issue when it comes to the safety and health of you and your child. Jogging Strollers are a very popular type of stroller for moms who also want to get in some exercise activity into their lives. Before you go for a run with your bundle of joy make it a priority to get familiar with some of these safety tips that will keep you and your child safe and secure.

We have compiled a list of some excellent and informative jogging stroller safety tips that will help you in your next purchase of a new stroller, as well as help you to avoid any unforeseen accidents. Safety issues to consider include:

* Always remember that your child will not necessarily sit still during the duration of your run. This is especially true for toddlers and older children. If your child seems restless, you may want to let them out of the stroller and allow them to play for a little while.

* When going for you jog always avoid rough terrain and stick to smooth surfaces, especially if your child is under one year old. You want to avoid shaking your baby while running.

* Always be in total control of your jogger. Make sure that you can stop the stroller at a moments notice if needed. Remember the brake on a stroller is for parking not for sudden stops.

* Always be cautious of your surroundings. You want to run in areas where there is no traffic such as parks.

* During your run you may want to shift your child’s position around at various times. This is important because a young child may not be able to do it themselves. It will help to increase their comfort level.

* Try to choose a fairly lightweight jogging stroller as this will ease some of the pressure on your run. The extra weight could be hindrance when jogging.

* Try to choose the right time when running with your child. If you run just before naptime then the rhythmic sound of the wheels rolling along may help put your baby to sleep.

* When purchasing a jogging stroller choose a sturdy design model that has good shocks and is not too lightweight. Don’t substitute a cheaper price for lesser stability.

* Do not put a child who is 6 months or under into a jogging stroller. This is still too young.

* Purchase a jogging stroller with adjustable features, such as an adjustable handlebar that will allow you to set the height of the stroller for more stability and comfort.

* Take a practice run before going for a jog. You want to run without the child if it is your first time using the stroller. This will allow you to get a better feel for the handling of the stroller, and will also allow you to see if you can stop and turn with ease. Also remember that the child will add weight to the stroller which can make manoeuvring some what more difficult.
